A military commander and founder of the nation who was active from the end of Goryeo to the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty. Known as Yi Seong-gye, he founded the Joseon Dynasty in 1392. Biography

Early life

It grew as a military force in the northern part of Goryeo, and achieved military merit in its response to the Wokou and Red Turban forces. Changes in the international order during the Yuan-Ming transition period were behind his political rise.

Achievements

With the return of Uihwa Island, he assumed real power and established the Joseon Dynasty. By moving the capital to Hanyang and establishing a new ruling system, he laid the foundations for Korea as a Confucian bureaucratic state.
