Early life

Born as the grandson of Timur, he was educated as a member of imperial royalty. He was more interested in learning and urban culture than in military conquest, and sought to make Samarkand a center of knowledge.

Achievements

He built an observatory in Samarkand and created a star catalog based on precise observations. He protected mathematicians and astronomers and inherited the scientific traditions of the Islamic world.
